The first annual Brendan and Martin Mulvihill Legacy Fiddle Competition will be in Glin, County Limerick on October 31, 2026. Thanks to AM Environmental, the awards for first, second and third in the fiddle competition will be €500, €250, and €100. Because Martin and Brendan were both remarkable fiddlers and composers, the competition requires competitors to play at least one composition of Martin or Brendan or a tune from one of their recordings in each of two sets. For ages 14 to 21, registration is required by the end of September. To be sure your tune selections meet the criteria, we recommend that you register early with your selections and send a recording of the selections to glintradweek@gmail.com for verification. The recording will be used only for verification that the tunes meet the Mulvihill requirement.

1. Eligibility

Competitors must be between the ages of 14 and 21 as of the date of the competition - October 31, 2026.

The competition is strictly for solo fiddle players.

2. Musical Requirements

Each competitor must perform two sets of traditional music.

Each set must consist of at least two, but no more than three, tunes

The two sets cannot feature the same rhythm or tune type as their primary focus.

Contestants are free to mix tune types within a single set.

Example: If your first set is a "Reel / Reel" combination, your second set cannot be another "Reel / Reel" or "Reel / Reel / Reel" combination. It must feature different tune types such as Jigs, Hornpipes, polkas, airs, slides, slip jigs, etc.

3. The Martin and Brendan Mulvihill Requirement: Each of the two sets must include at least one tune that was either composed by or featured on a commercial recording by Brendan or Martin Mulvihill, including recordings available on Bandcamp.

4. Registration & Verification

Pre-Selection: The selection of Mulvihill tunes must be submitted via the online registration form.

It is ONE competition for ages 14 to 21. Competitors under 16 must register with Parent or Guardian Consent and include their email address in the registration. Choose the correct age button to register.

Advance registration is required.

Competitors must identify the names of the tunes that meet the qualification criteria and to allow for verification, can identify the source (album, recording, tune book) of the tunes to allow for advanced verification that the tunes meet the requirement.

Verification audio: Competitors may send a brief audio recording of their chosen Mulvihill tunes to allow confirmation that the selected tunes meet the criteria. The recording may be sent by email to Glintradweek@gmail.com.
